Keep your kids and teens active this fall with Parks and Rec offerings

KINGSPORT — The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is offering a number of upcoming events this fall, including physical education classes, boys and girls basketball, pickleball and basketball clinics taught by students from Milligan College.

Here’s a rundown of what’s happening, how to register and when the events are taking place.

Youth basketball — Registration begins Sept. 11

Leagues are offered for boys ages 5-17 and girls ages 5-15. Participants must live inside the Kingsport city limits, attend Kingsport City Schools, and/or own property within the city.

The registration fee is $20 per child (jersey fee not included) and registration will take place at the Civic Auditorium in the Athletic Office on the following dates:

— Sept. 11 to Oct. 16 for kids ages five to 12

— Sept. 11 to Oct. 30 for kids ages 13 to 17.

Open gym pickleball

Pickleball combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Kingsport Parks and Recreation invites all level of players to participate, from beginners to advanced.

Sessions began Aug. 22 at the V.O. Dobbins Community Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For more information, call (423) 224-2428 or (423) 224-2489.

Physical education classes

Students who are being home-schooled can participate in physical education classes at the V.O. Dobbins Community Center on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The classes are $15 per session, per child and children ages 6 and up are eligible to participate. Milligan basketball clinic

Miligan students will be hosting a boys basketball clinic on Sept. 16 at the V.O. Dobbins Community Center. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is open to kids ages 6 to 16. The cost is $10 per person. For more information call (423) 224-2489.
