Crockett routs Johnson County; Eastside locks up title

JONESBOROUGH — David Crockett got more than a measure of revenge against Johnson County on Friday night.

Avenging a road loss to the Longhorns earlier in the season, the Pioneers rolled to a 74-27 home victory.

Mack Hensley led the Crockett onslaught with 22 points. Donta Hackler did his part with 17 points, and Jake Gaffney and Eric Dunbar each scored 11.

For Johnson County, Lucas Phillips had nine points and Michael Oxentine added seven.

UNAKA 81, HAPPY VALLEY 76

ELIZABETHTON — The Rangers took advantage of a 47-7 free-throw discrepancy, hitting 33 from the line as the Warriors’ starting five all fouled out.

Will Sexton had 34 points for Unaka, going 23-for-26 at the free-throw line. Ryan Johnson hit five shots behind the arc to score 17 and Dylan Whitehead finished with 14 points.

Blake Young led Happy Valley’s efforts with 16 points. Dylan Willis had 15, and Andrew Clawson and Luke Roberts each scored eight.

UNICOI COUNTY 71, CLOUDLAND 50

ERWIN — The Blue Devils hit 12 shots behind the 3-point line against the Highlanders.

Brock Thompson was Unicoi County’s leading scorer with 14 points and Brett Lingerfelt hit four shots from 3-point range for 12 points. Caleb Adkins and Nick Lynch each scored nine.

Elijah Blair led Cloudland with 14 points.

EASTSIDE 82, RYE COVE 56

CLINCHPORT — Ethan Powers netted 22 points to power the Spartans to a victory over the host Eagles that locked up another Cumberland District regular-season championship.

Will Stansberry chipped in with 11 points and Eli Mason added 10.

Matthew Rhoton was Rye Cove’s top scorer with 19 points. Zach Baker contributed 12, Ethan Chavez 11 and Hardin tallied 10.

J.I. BURTON 69, THOMAS WALKER 49

EWING — Jonah Cochrane scored 20 points to help the Raiders surge past Thomas Walker on the road in a Cumberland contest. Trevor Culbertson chipped in with 19 points and Isaiah Kinser added 11 to the winning effort.

Caleb Yeary was the top scorer for the Pioneers with 17 points, and Zach Kidwell finished with 10.

TRI-CITIES CHRISTIAN 56, BEREAN CHRISTIAN 39

KNOXVILLE — Tri-Cities Christian won the battle of the Eagles thanks in part to the 12-point performances by Jesse Young and Gavyn Etter.

Drew Correll scored nine points and Adam Pritchard added eight for Tri-Cities (15-7).

Garrett Harmon had a game-high 20 points for Berean Christian. Kris Clay finished with 13.

GIRLS

SCIENCE HILL 62, CAMPBELL COUNTY 41

JACKSBORO — Up by a point at the half, the Lady ’Toppers pulled away from the Lady Cougars in the final two quarters.

Alasia Smith filled the nets for 21 points, while Erin Egerbrecht and Jeila Greenlee each scored 12.

Madison Brady had a team-best 14 for Campbell County, followed by Emily Ellison with 10.

JOHNSON COUNTY 48, DAVID CROCKETT 41

JONESBOROUGH — Taylor Cox netted 19 points as the Lady Longhorns captured the road victory over the Lady Pioneers. Taylor Parsons hit double digits in the Johnson County win, netting 10.

MacKenzie Baldwin was the lone Crockett player to reach double figures with 10 points. Zoe Sanders was next highest with seven.

HAPPY VALLEY 58, UNAKA 42

ELIZABETHTON — Shalyn Whitson scored 15 points and the Lady Warriors celebrated a Senior Night win over their cross-county rivals.

Kadie Bailey added nine points for Happy Valley.

A pair of freshmen led the Lady Rangers. Lyndie Ramsey had 17 points and Kenzie Depew finished with 11.

CLOUDLAND 60, UNICOI COUNTY 27

ERWIN — The Lady Highlanders held the Lady Blue Devils to just eight points in the second half and more than doubled the home team’s total.

Jasmine Birchfield accounted for a game-high 13 points for Cloudland. Mandy Benfield and Heaven Caraway each finished with 12.

Tenley Holt was the high scorer for Unicoi County with nine points.

THOMAS WALKER 49, J.I. BURTON 26

EWING — Lakin Burke dropped in 13 points to power the Lady Pioneers to a decisive Cumberland victory over the visiting Lady Raiders.

Bella Schwartz chipped in with 10 points for Thomas Walker.

K.J. Jenkins led the Lady Raiders with 14 points.

EASTSIDE 71, RYE COVE 40

CLINCHPORT — Kaylee Yates poured in 24 points in the Lady Spartans’ Cumberland road win.

Chloe Powers powered up 22 points, a total that included three buckets from behind the arc, and Kaci Jones added 14 for Eastside.

Chloe Gibson was the top scorer for the Lady Eagles with 11 points.

TWIN SPRINGS 65, CASTLEWOOD 10

NICKELSVILLE — Belle Austin scored 17 points in the Lady Titans’ no-doubt Cumberland win at home.

Twin Springs closed out the first quarter with a 26-2 advantage and never looked back. Aubrey Powers and Erin Larkin each chipped in with 11 for the home team.

Adi Hall was the top scorer for Castlewood with five points.

PROVIDENCE ACADEMY 67, TEMPLE BAPTIST 29

JOHNSON CITY — Christen Sholes broke the school record by hitting nine 3-pointers in a single game and finished with 36 points in the Lady Knights’ romp.

Katie Cross contributed eight points for Providence.

Cassie Landrum was the leading scorer for Temple Baptist with seven.
