The food bank, which annually distributes 2.5 million pounds of food to those in need, is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.
“This new warehouse will allow us to collect and distribute more food to the individuals and families experiencing hunger in our community,” said Maresha Bosgieter, director of Catholic Community Services of Northern Utah in a CCS news release. “Over half of those we serve are children we help through our Bridging the Gap program.”
Bridging the Gap is a mobile pantry that delivers groceries to low-income elementary schools each week.
“The local community has come together to make this possible with the help of very generous donors,” according to the news release about the warehouse.
Among the community warehouse donors were: The ALSAM Foundation, the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation, the Brent and Ann Wilson Foundation, Robert C. Steiner, Zions Bank, the I.J. and Jeanne Wagner Foundation, the Marilyn O’Conner Estate and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to the news release.
Among the first products to be stored in the new warehouse include 3,000 nonperishable food items collected by students at Valley View Elementary School in Roy.

Valley View Elementary School students partnered with Bank of Utah on a school-wide food drive March 26-29 as part of “Kick Childhood Hunger.”
The students collected the 3,000 food items in four days during a competition between classes, according to a news release from Bank of Utah.
Roger Christensen, a Bank of Utah senior vice president over marketing and communications, thanked the students for their participation and presented cash prizes of $400 and $200 to the two classrooms that collected the most food, Friday, April 13.
The contest was part of a larger, community food drive.
The Bank of Utah asks the community to help them “Kick Childhood Hunger” by dropping off donations of cash and non-perishable food at bank branches and loan offices throughout Utah, through Friday, April 20.
The locally owned bank is partnering with 10 food pantries near their community branches throughout the state to provide food for local children and families.
“The bank’s goal is to make it convenient for the community to support local food pantries by collecting cash and food at all its branches,” said the Bank of Utah news release.
