Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Girls Inc. of Kingsport officials were forced to make the tough decision to shift the agency’s annual fundraiser from an in-person Southern Social to an online event they’ve dubbed the Stay Home Social, featuring an online auction, fun and interactive livestream updates, and more.
“I want to invite everyone to our Stay at Home Social,” President and CEO Julie Wright Short said in a video invitation on the Girls Inc. of Kingsport’s Facebook page. “Our girls are going to need us more than ever once this crisis passes. With your support, we can keep our doors open, and we can be that home away from home for all of our girls. You can help us continue to inspire them to be strong, smart and bold.”
The Stay Home Social officially runs from 6 to 10 p.m., today (Friday, April 17) with the live auction online at https://shsauction.ggo.bid. There’s information about how to register, how online bidding works and even an opportunity to get a bit of a sneak peek of some of the auction items well before the bidding begins.
Girls Inc. of Kingsport has previewed some unique auction items on its Facebook page, including a Kobe Bryant autographed print, a “Game of Thrones” autographed photo, restaurant gift cards, and a number of once-in-a-lifetime trips that you can buy now and take later. Participants will have an opportunity to bid on trips such as a waterfront Belize getaway, an Ireland adventure, the Ultimate NASCAR Driving Experience with your choice of location and a Kentucky Bourbon Trail Tour.
Want to support Girls Inc. of Kingsport without participating in the auction? There’s a way to do that, too. Although the facility is currently closed, Girls Inc. of Kingsport is continuing to serve its girls through online programming as well as with food and hygiene items for families in need.
Anyone interested in helping to meet those needs can visit https://girlsinckpt.ejoinme.org/purchase to adopt a girl ($40), buy girl-designed T-shirts or purchase food bags for families ($10). The food bags will be distributed at Girls Inc. of Kingsport to girls and their families via drive through pick-up in the parking lot.
