On Wednesday morning, East Tennessee State University announced President Brian Noland’s nomination to be considered as University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s next chancellor.

“Earlier today, the University of Tennessee-Knoxville conveyed that I have accepted the nomination for consideration as its next chancellor. I want to thank the ETSU community for your patience and support as my family explores this opportunity. I assure everyone that my focus remains on having an outstanding close to the spring semester, and I look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our graduates at Commencement,” the ETSU president wrote in an emailed statement.

Since becoming the ninth president of ETSU in 2012 after serving for six years as Chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education System, Noland has led the campus into an unprecedented era of growth, particularly with capital projects including the construction of the William B. Greene Jr. football stadium, the ongoing construction of the Mary B. Martin Center for the Arts and extensive renovations to the D.P. Culp University Center, as well as the reintroduction of the university’s football program.
