One of many block parties going on that week, Fur Fest lets dogs and owners visit the park for free. Memberships to the dog park will be available on site.
“We’re using it to showcase the dog park,” Johnnie Hennessee, the park’s special event organizer, said. “A lot of people don’t know it’s out here next to Hunter Wright Stadium.”
The event usually averages 250 to 300 people during its three hours.
The number of vendors keeps growing, with 25 taking part this year.
Vendors will offer lots of products and services to pamper your pooch, while Harpo Hot Dogz will feed the human crowd. Johnson City Massage will provide massages to dog and human attendees. The Kingsport Police Department K-9s will also be putting on a demonstration.
New to the event this year will be a blessing of the pets.
Local shelters will have dogs up for adoption at the event, with Petworks offering microchipping for $20. Family Pet Veterinary Clinic will also be offering rabies vaccinations for $10.
The Kingsport Dog Park, at 800 Granby Road near Hunter Wright Stadium, is a 3.5-acre facility featuring a dog playground, two dog swimming pools and separate areas for large and small dogs. Membership to the park is $20 a year, with applicable immunizations required.
“The dogs love it. They get to meet new doggy friends, and the owners get to meet other dog owners,” Hennessee said.
