But, judging by the way they were biting in the first 30 minutes of the competition, apparently someone got in and overfed them Friday night.
Alexander Creek was clear Saturday morning, and the young anglers were frustrated as they watched “whoppers” swimming by one after the other, completely uninterested in their baited hooks.
The first couple of fished to be pulled out of the creek after the hooks dropped at 8:30 a.m. were bluegill that were barely big enough to serve as bait.
But eventually the trout started biting, and what organizers described as a record crowd of youngsters lined along both sides of the creek banks started pulling out the big ones.
The First Fish trophy winners were: Paisley Evans (girls 4-7); Blake Davidson (boys 4-7); Braylee Evans (girls 8-11); Creed Thacker (boys 8-11); and Tyler Evans (boys 12-16).
There were only two trophies given for first to catch the limit of three: Robert Ellsworth (boys 8-11); and Cole Evans (boys 12-16).
The Best Fish of the Day trophy went to Aiden Skelton (boys 8-11), who caught a trout weighing one pound, seven ounces.
