ROGERSVILLE — A Kingsport man who has been in the Hawkins County Jail for the past 14 months accused of twice raping the 9-year-old girl he was babysitting was indicted Monday on four additional child sex charges.

Christopher Wayne Lane, 36, formerly of 212 Lewis Lane, Apt. 512, was named in a sealed Hawkins County grand jury indictment Monday on two counts of rape of a child under 13 and two counts of aggravated sexual battery of a child under 13.

Those four counts pertain to allegations that during the time period of Aug. 1-16, 2016 Lane twice engaged in sexual penetration of a child under the age of 13 and twice engaged in sexual contact with a child under the age of 13.

Lane was originally arrested by the HCSO on Oct. 23, 2017 and charged with two counts of rape of a child after allegedly admitting to sexual contact with the 9-year-old girl he babysat during the week of Oct. 10-14.

The child reportedly told HCSO Detective Cliff Evans that Lane had sexual contact with her.

Upon being interviewed on the day of his arrest, Lane allegedly admitted that he had touched the child in a sexual manner twice during the week he babysat her at her home just north of the Church Hill city limits.

Rape of a child is a Class A felony punishable by 15-25 years. Aggravated sexual battery is a Class B felony punishable by 8-12 years.

As of Friday, Lane remained held in the Hawkins County Jail on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled for arraignment on the new charges in Criminal Court on Dec. 14.

Lane also has a court hearing scheduled for Feb. 8. 2018 in Criminal Court on the original charges.
