Dancing in Kingsport traffic spurs disorderly arrest

Feb. 6

An 82-year-old woman called police to report her sofa was missing and likely stolen by her grandson. He had stayed at her residence the previous night, but when she awoke he and the sofa were gone.

Feb. 9

— A man reported harassment from his father and mother, saying that they keep sending his fiancee text messages to "cause trouble."

— The Humane Society removed five dogs and a cat from a home where they had been left abandoned. A neighbor reported feeding the animals for about a month.

Feb. 10

At 7:30 p.m., an officer conducted a stop on a car that did not have its headlights activated. The driver emitted an odor of alcohol and admitted to drinking six 40-ounce beers with friends "after being released from jail." That was at noon. He was arrested for DUI, his fourth such offense, and driving on a revoked license.

Feb. 17

— The driver of an SUV crashed into a yard on Tranbarger Drive, then fled the scene before police arrival. While departing, the driver allegedly struck a resident of the home, who was trying to get a tag number, and knocked him into a fence.

— At a used car lot in Lynn Garden, cameras recorded a man smashing a pickup's window with a block and then crawling inside. When an officer located the suspect walking nearby, he admitted to trying to steal the vehicle: "I just needed one for a couple of hours to get out of there." He was arrested for attempted theft, burglary and trespassing. A syringe in his possession netted a count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Feb. 18

At about 1 a.m., a man was asked to leave Waffle House on East Stone Drive for "causing a disturbance." Shortly thereafter, police spotted him "running and dancing in the street" near the intersection of North Eastman Road, forcing motorists to drive around him. When officers approached, he ran away while "screaming loudly." Once detained in a parking lot, he was arrested for disorderly conduct and evading arrest.
