Blountville dinner spat escalates to elder abuse

March 29

In Lynn Garden, police were called to the Super 8 motel due to someone on meth "destroying a room." Upon arrival, they found the room’s furnishings destroyed, water running from a broken faucet and a mirror off the wall. The latter, according to the two occupants, is because they were "looking for the bigger picture" that was behind it. Drugs were indeed found in the room, netting their arrests on multiple charges.

March 30

A 28-year-old allegedly assaulted his father at a Kingsport apartment, pushing his head against the wall and choking him. According to the victim, his son was angry because he refused to buy him an "eight ball" of meth. The suspect was later located nearby and arrested.

April 1

At 4:20 a.m., dispatch was alerted to a car stopped in the intersection of Watauga and Center streets. An officer found the engine running and driver "passed out." A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered meth, a pipe, pot and pills. He was jailed on drugs charges.

March 28

A Kingsport teen reported that her twin brother got angry at her “for being loud," with their argument turning physical. After she accused him of being a thief, he reportedly held her down and called for his dog, at which time the animal bit her several times. The 18-year-old suspect had left the residence, but a warrant was to be obtained for aggravated assault.

March 30

— On Highway 75 near Muddy Creek Road, a deputy clocked a Ford Mustang traveling more than 100 mph. During a subsequent pursuit, contact was lost with the suspect, but another officer located the car and conducted a stop on Devault Bridge Road. The driver, 18, had an odor of alcohol, while two empty beer cans were spotted behind his seat. He was arrested for felony evading, speeding and underage consumption.

— During a disagreement over when to begin cooking chicken in the oven, a drunken Blountville man, 41, allegedly pushed down and choked his mother, age 65. She told police that she tried to defend herself by hitting her son with an oxygen tank but was too weak to do so. The suspect fled the home but was located in a barn on the victim's property. After refusing to make a statement, he was arrested for elder abuse and aggravated assault.
