Drunken Kingsport man torches his own yard barn

April 29

While unloading his vehicle after playing golf, a Church Hill man unholstered his handgun and placed it on top of his wife’s car. Unaware of the firearm’s location, she drove away from their home, taking the pistol with her. The gun was reported missing to police, and it’s believed to have fallen off somewhere along Carters Valley Road.

May 5

In wet conditions on Stony Point Road, a deputy observed a car slide through a stop sign, nearly striking another vehicle. When the officer spoke with the driver, the deputy learned that the man’s license was expired, and a consent search of the vehicle located meth, marijuana and a syringe. The man was arrested.

May 6

— Central Dispatch was notified of a woman jumping from a moving vehicle on May Avenue. An investigation revealed she had been held against her will by her boyfriend, who for two days refused to let her leave a city motel room. A check of that location found bloodstained walls and linens, while the victim — who is three months pregnant — was transported to a hospital for treatment. The suspect was later located and charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.

— Police were alerted to a case of indecent exposure on East Park Drive. According to a resident, a man exited a vehicle, walked into his yard naked and defecated under a tree. An officer arrived to find the suspect still unclothed and sitting on the sidewalk. He was determined to be “highly intoxicated” and was arrested.

May 5

On Morelock Street, a resident reported his neighbor was “acting crazy” and doing doughnuts with a vehicle in the backyard. That was followed by the man torching a yard barn on his own property. Police arrived to find the outbuilding fully engulfed in flames, while the suspect was unsteady on his feet and emitting an odor of alcohol. After being belligerent with officers, he was taken into custody for disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting arrest.

May 6

A woman claimed that while walking along Jackson Hollow Road, an unknown male punched her in the face, snatched her purse and ran away.

A Piney Flats man told police that his ex-wife arrived at his home to retrieve personal belongings. While she was there, an unknown male entered with a gun, fired one round and held him at gunpoint. The woman then took several of her ex-husband’s items before departing with her companion.
