Body found in Holston River near Ridgefields

KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Police Department is investigating the discovery of a body in the Holston River.

According to a news release from Thomas M. Patton, KPD public information officer, at around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, the KPD was alerted by a fisherman to the discovery of a body in a stretch of the Holston River adjacent to the Ridgefields subdivision of Kingsport.

KPD patrol officers and detectives responded, and with assistance from the Kingsport Fire Department and the Kingsport Life Saving Crew, the body was recovered.

Based upon the preliminary investigation, the person appears to have been an adult male, according to the release.

The body was sent to the ETSU Quillen College of Medicine for autopsy by the medical examiner to attempt to positively identify him and determine cause of death.

Patton said this remains an active and ongoing investigation by the KPD Criminal Investigations Division, and no further details  will be released at this time. Additional information will be released as it becomes available at the appropriate point in the investigation
