A deputy stopped a swerving vehicle along Bristol Caverns Highway. The driver — who was transporting his juvenile daughter — denied drinking any alcohol, but a pat-down found a loaded syringe in his pocket. A search of the car uncovered 78 various prescription pills, including morphine and oxycodone, along with 17 grams of a crystal substance. He was arrested on multiple charges.
In Bristol, a woman accused a neighbor of killing her dog, saying that he threw poisoned meat over the fence into her yard. As she had no proof for the claim, a deputy advised her how to seek private prosecution.

At 5 a.m., an employee arriving at Home Depot noticed tire tracks around a security gate. The worker then spotted a pickup, with merchandise “overflowing” from its bed, as it traveled across the parking lot and slammed through the fencing. The witness had to throw the car in reverse to avoid being hit by the suspect’s vehicle, which fled the scene via East Stone Drive. Among the stolen items was a zero-turn mower, valued at $3,000, while damages to the property were estimated at $1,200. An investigation is continuing.
On Fairview Avenue, a woman called police about an unknown man sleeping in her backyard shed. When an officer arrived, the suspect said he was in the outbuilding because he is homeless and provided a fake name and date of birth. He then tried to run away, leading to a brief struggle until he was handcuffed and put in a cruiser. In addition to facing charges of trespassing and resisting arrest, he was found to have multiple warrants in both Sullivan County and Scott County, Va.
— In the Fort Henry Mall, an employee of Belk was arrested for embezzlement. On multiple occasions, she “vastly discounted” clothing items at the register, where a pair of accomplices made the purchases. Loss prevention estimated the store’s losses at nearly $1,400.
— Police were alerted to a “lethargic,” suspicious man at the Walmart on West Stone Drive, where he had “wandered in and out of the women’s bathroom several times.” A responding officer found the suspect by the side of the road and falling asleep at a guardrail. In his pocket were 47 pills and a baggie of pot, netting his arrest on drug charges. He was also charged with public intoxication.
— When a man attempted to buy alcohol at a Shell gas station on West Stone Drive, the clerk asked to scan his ID rather than just look at it. This reportedly enraged him to the point of yelling at the employee and prompted a pair of male customers to tell him to leave. Before departing, the angry customer reportedly pulled a gun from the center console of his car and pointed it at the other men. Police reviewed surveillance footage to ID the suspect, then visited his home. Ultimately, he was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault.
