Staff Report • Feb 12, 2019 at 3:30 PM

To help young children in Scott County grow and prosper, all the proceeds earned at Mountain Treasures Thrift Store and the Dungannon Thrift Store on Valentine’s Day will be donated to support the county’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library program.

About the program

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program works with local organizations to provide one book a month to children under 5 years old. Appalachian Community Action Agency (AppCAA, formerly RADA) is the local partner for the Imagination Library program in Scott County.

Raising funds

Local partners must raise about $30 per child per year to cover the costs of the Imagination Library program. The program is open to any child under 5 years old who lives in Scott County.

There are almost 450 children currently enrolled in the county, according to a press release. AppCAA needs to raise about $13,500 every year to continue the program.

Where to shop

The two participating thrift stores are Mountain Treasures Thrift Store, located at 1378 W. Jackson St., Suite 101, in Gate City; and the Dungannon Thrift Store, located at 19007 Veterans Memorial Highway in Dungannon.

How to donate

Donations can be made directly to AppCAA by calling (276) 452-2441 or visiting www.appcaa.org. AppCAA is a 501(c)3 charity, and contributions may be tax-deductible.
