KINGSPORT — A 42-year-old Church Hill man was arrested Thursday evening just minutes after allegedly robbing a gas station.

According to the Kingsport Police Department, Reggie L. Evans has been charged with the aggravated robbery of the Spirit Gas Station, located at 1300 E. Stone Drive. The incident took place around 8:45 p.m.

Officers responded to a holdup alarm at the business, and while still en route to the scene, dispatchers received a follow-up call from the store’s clerk confirming that there had in fact been a robbery.

According to the KPD, the clerk said the suspect, who indicated that he had a gun, took the cash drawer from the register. The clerk also provided a detailed description of the suspect’s vehicle and a partial license plate number. Police then determined that they were looking for a blue 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Tom Patton, KPD public information officer, said that less than 10 minutes after the initial alarm, an officer spotted the vehicle and made a traffic stop on North Eastman Road at the intersection of Stadium Court.

Evans was taken into custody without incident.

Patton said the stolen cash register drawer was recovered from the vehicle and Evans was transported to the Kingsport City Jail, where he remains pending arraignment. Evans has been charged with aggravated robbery.
