KINGSPORT — Allandale Mansion is continuing a decades-long tradition next week by opening its doors to the public and letting folks enjoy room after room of Christmas decorations, seasonal treats and a visit with good old Saint Nick.

The Christmas at Allandale Mansion tours will take place on Dec. 7 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Dec. 8 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children ages 7 to 12, and children 6 and under are admitted free.

Under the direction of local decorator Linda Snook, volunteers with Friends of Allandale spent about a week decorating the entire mansion, placing 10 Christmas trees throughout, along with garland, ornaments and other decorations on the fireplace mantels, railings and banisters and above the doorways.

All of the trees are decorated differently each year, mixing and matching the previous year’s decorations.

Allandale officials expect 700 to 800 people to come through the doors next weekend.

The tours are self-guided and normally take about 30 minutes to an hour. The mansion will have people on hand throughout the house to answer any questions about Allandale and its history.

You’ll be able to see antique toys, snack on cookies and hot wassail and enjoy some time with Santa Claus, who will be at the mansion on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Allandale Mansion was built in the early 1950s and donated to the city of Kingsport in 1969 after the death of its owner, Harvey Brooks. The property includes the mansion, two barns, a picnic pavilion, two man-made ponds, the Heron Dome and a 2,000-square-foot amphitheater.

Each year, Allandale is used for 250 to 300 events, including weddings, parties, reunions, showers, receptions and galas. Numerous Fun Fest events have also been held on the grounds over the years.
