As a result, 23-year-old Tyjuan M. Marsh of Atlanta, Georgia, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
According to a press release, Kingsport officers responded to the 1600 block of G Street shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers found Jeremy L. Smallwood of Rogersville, lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.
Sullivan County E.M.S. transported Smallwood to an area hospital for emergency medical treatment.
According to the release, officers detained Marsh at the scene and identified him as the individual who shot Smallwood. Based upon the investigation thus far, the Kingsport Police Department believes Smallwood was engaged in an argument with another individual when Marsh produced a firearm and shot him.
Marsh was charged with aggravated assault and booked into the Kingsport City Jail. He has since been released after posting a $10,000 bond. As of the time of this press release, Smallwood remains hospitalized in critical condition.
This remains an open and active investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division and as such, no further information will be released at this time.
