Submitted by Dave Williams • Jun 25, 2018 at 11:54 AM

Liberty Celebration 2018: United We Stand, a biennial patriotic musical extravaganza celebrating Independence Day, is coming to Eastman's Toy F. Reid Employee Center in Kingsport.

Show times for the Liberty Celebration are 7 p.m., Friday, June 29, and 2:30 and 7 p.m., Saturday, June 30. Advance tickets are $5 and may be purchased at Kingsport Community Church (on Memorial Boulevard across from Fort Henry Mall), the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce or from Liberty Celebration participants. Tickets will also be available at the door. However, because past performances have typically drawn over 3,500 attendees during the weekend, advance ticket purchase is recommended.

The fast-paced, tightly-planned program weaves the 'God and Country' theme and patriotism throughout the 90-minute presentation. It provides an outstanding opportunity to celebrate our nation’s freedom in a family atmosphere.

The 2018 theme was selected to recognize the need for our diverse nation to come together and celebrate the privileges and values that democracy has provided us for over 242 years.

A 130-member choir composed of children through senior citizens will display their musical talents in a variety of selections. The program, which covers a variety of genres and offers something for all ages in attendance, includes: United We Stand medleys, traditional patriotic selections, and a whirlwind tour of the United States. The upbeat performance will also feature a 40-piece orchestra. Soloists, small groups, dance groups and dramatic presentations will be highlighted. The orchestra and choir will be conducted by Dr. Marc Strand, whose involvement and passion for Liberty Celebration spans more than 20 years.

The program invites a strong military presence emphasizing and recognizing our active and retired service men and women in all branches of services as well as our first responders. A special recognition of veterans of foreign wars present in the audience is an important aspect of the program.

A dramatic honor ceremony with a wreath placement at a replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be led by the award-winning Sullivan South High School JROTC cadets. This aspect of the program will highlight special recognition of youth and young adults who represent our nation’s 21st century leaders. All Scouts, JROTC cadets and other associated youth groups are strongly encouraged to attend.

Liberty Celebration is a non-profit entity. A significant portion of proceeds will benefit American Legion Post 3 and Honor Guard 265. The Honor Guard participates in veteran military funeral services throughout the Tri-Cities region.

The 2018 Liberty Celebration T-shirts are available for $10 each.
