The silent auction takes place 6-8 p.m. at Occasions on the Square, 101 W. Main St. at the Depot Street intersection, with all proceeds to benefit the Hawkins County Humane Society.
Approximately 100 original handmade creations by artists from Hawkins and surrounding counties will be on display for bid.
Some of the items up for auction can be previewed in the photo gallery section of the online version of this article at www.timesnews.net.
Anyone interested in contributing items to the auction is encouraged to contact the HCHS by calling (423) 272-6538 or email email@example.com.
The event will include wine for a small fee, as well as snacks and soft drinks, and some of the shelter's dogs and cats will be in attendance to help motivate the big spenders.
Dave Toll, event chairman, noted that the Humane Society is a no-kill facility working hard for the betterment of Hawkins County animals.
The Rogersville-based shelter has adopted approximately 500 dogs and cats into new homes this past year, and a major part of the program is the rescue of abused animals.
The HCHS also educates and trains county residents about humane treatment of companion animals and has a spay and neuter program aimed at reducing Hawkins County’s homeless animal population.
Only a small proportion of the shelter's revenue comes from adoption fees and local government contributions, Toll noted. The shelter mainly relies on private donations to keep the doors open.
Toll noted that the shelter facility, located at 5180 Highway 11-W, Rogersville, is older and needs many repairs and improvements, including replacement to one of its three heat pumps and upgrades to the ventilation system and the outside kennels.
All contributions — including money, cat litter, dog food, cleaning items and animal bedding — are welcomed and can be delivered in person or mailed to: Hawkins County Humane Society, at PO Box 217, 5180 Highway 11-W, Rogersville, TN 37857.
