Kingsport’s Roberts to work NCAA women’s title game

INDIANAPOLIS — A Kingsport native will take the basketball court along with Connecticut and Syracuse on Tuesday night for the NCAA Division I women’s championship game.

Beverly Roberts will be one of the three referees working the national title game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. UConn (37-0) and Syracuse (30-7) tip off at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.

The Sullivan North High School alum and 1990 Tusculum graduate also officiated the 2008 NCAA Final Four in Tampa, Fla., and has worked in 10 consecutive NCAA tournaments. This will be her first national championship game.

Roberts officiates women’s games in the Big Ten, Big 12, Missouri Valley Conference, Southeastern Conference and Conference USA.

Officiating runs in the family. Beverly’s father, Garry Roberts, is a basketball official in the South Atlantic Conference.
