• KINGSPORT HAMMOND POST 3 is looking for players for the 2019 American Legion spring/summer season. • MLB PITCH, HIT & RUN competition, hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County, will be held May 5 at 2 p.m. Free and open to boys and girls ages 7-14, the event features four age groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Participants have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at major league ballparks and the national finals during the 2019 MLB All-Star week. • 21st SHOOTING STARS SUMMER Basketball League signups run April 10-June 30. The league, for boys and girls grades 3-12, begins play July 8 at Science Hill in Johnson City. CLASSES

• TWRA TENNESSEE SAFE BOATING Course, a two-night class offered by the Tri-Cities Boating Club, will be held Tuesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 25, from 5:30-8 p.m. each night, at the Northeast State Humanities Building, Room H-148. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency exam for a Tennessee Boat Operators Permit will be given at the conclusion of Thursday’s class. Individuals passing the test will be issued a Boating Safety Education Certificate, which is required for all boat and personal watercraft operators born after Jan. 1, 1989. The class is free to the public, but to take the exam and get a Boat Operator Permit, you must purchase ahead of time and bring with you TWRA’s Type 600 Boating Safety Exam Permit. Exam permits may be purchased for $10 at any TWRA hunting/fishing license vendor. The course covers: Your Boat; Getting Underway; Operating Your Boat Safely; Legal Requirements of Boating; Boating Emergencies – What To Do; and Enjoying Water Sports With Your Boat. • ANNUAL KIDS FISHING DAY, for kids 12-under, will be held Saturday, April 27, from noon-3 p.m., at Natural Tunnel State Park, 1420 Natural Tunnel Pkwy., Duffield. • BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS East Tennessee Golf Classic, presented by Edfinancial Services and Regal Entertainment Group, will be held Friday, June 21 at Avalon Golf and Country Club in Lenoir City. • THE DEVILS DASH 5K, a fundraiser for the Gate City Big Blue Booster Club, will be held Saturday, April 20, beginning at 9 a.m., in downtown Gate City. • 20th ST. JUDE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL Nashville “Bringing the Fun to the Run” will be held April 25-28. The annual event — previously know as the Country Music Marathon — includes a 5K, wheelchair race, marathon, half-marathon, 1-mile fun run, doggie dash plus much more. • 11th AMAZINGRACE 5K and Mile Races, presented by First Baptist Church — Kingsport, will be held on Sunday, May 5, in downtown Kingsport, with the start and finish lines near the FBC campus on Church Circle. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Providence Medical Clinic. The certified-course 1-mile race will begin at 5:15 p.m. and the certified-course 5K will begin at 6 p.m. Professional race management and timing services will be provided by We Run Events. • GIRLS ON THE RUN SPRING 5K is set for Saturday, May 11, beginning at 9 a.m. at South Side Elementary School in Johnson City. The noncompetitive fun run will follow a course that winds through the Tree Streets neighborhood and caps the Girls on the Run program. This spring’s event will feature “color splash,” with colored powder tossed on runners at points along the course.
