Four teams dominated Saturday’s Class 1 Super Region wrestling championships at Carroll County in Independence.

The Super Region combines Regions 1C and 1D, and the top wrestlers from the meet advance to next weekend’s VHSL Class 1 championships in Salem.

Grundy, which had five individual champions in the tournament, won the team title with 288 points.

Rural Retreat and Grayson County each had three Super Region champions and George Wythe had two.

Castlewood’s Adam Gibson was the only wrestler not from the top four teams to win an individual championship. Gibson defeated Grundy’s Ethan Blankenship in a 6-5 decision to win the 106 class.

Abingdon’s Jack Newton and Jack Campbell won individual championships Saturday in the Region 3D wrestling championships at Christiansburg.

Newton took the title in the 138 class. Campbell’s championship came in the 152 class with a pin of Lord Botetourt’s Sam Francis at the 2:46 mark of the final.

Abingdon’s Dalton Minnick placed second in the 106 class, and Joby Milstead placed third at 170.
