Enjoy music, refreshments at Carter Fold Christmas program for the cost of a can

HILTONS — Christmas is coming a little early in Southwest Virginia.

On Saturday, the public is invited to the Carter Family Fold for a special Christmas program, which will feature live music and refreshments.

When and where: The event will begin at 7:30 at the Fold, located at 3449 A.P. Carter Highway in Hiltons.

Music: Christmas music will be performed as refreshments are served. Afterward, the Scott County JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) students will play.

Scott County JAM is a program for fourth- through 12th-graders that aims to preserve old-time Appalachian music. Current band members are Maelee Taylor on fiddle, Elisbeth Roberts on banjo, Lillie Miller on fiddle, Emerson Brown on fiddle, Savannah Williams on fiddle, Ben Peters on banjo, Katie Pearcy on guitar, Hunter White on guitar and Chase Hughes on guitar.

Decorations: The A.P. Carter birthplace cabin will be specially decorated in the mountain Christmas tradition and will feature decorations made by special needs youth.

Cost: In lieu of an admission charge, guests are asked to bring canned goods for a local food bank, with a suggested amount of $10 worth per person. Those who do not bring canned foods are asked to make a $10 donation per adult, with all proceeds going to the food bank. Children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.

In addition, those attending are asked to bring finger foods or two-liter drinks for use as refreshments. Cups, plates and napkins will also be needed.
