VDOT to hold public hearing on Route 58/23 access improvements

Staff Report • Jan 19, 2018 at 9:15 AM

GATE CITY – If you want to ask questions or express concerns to VDOT about Route 58/23, you’ll get your opportunity later this month.

VDOT has planned a design public hearing, which will allow citizens to review proposed project plans for access improvements. These plans include improvements to just under a half-mile of Route 58/23 near the intersection of Filter Plant Ford.

The proposed project, VDOT says, will enhance safety by improving drainage, closing six crossovers to reduce crashes, adding a park and ride lot, relocating the intersection of Routes 58 and Filter Plant Ford and adding a right turn lane and left turn lanes at the new intersection location.

Citizens will have an opportunity to record verbal comments for the official record anytime during the meeting. Written comments will be accepted during the meeting or can be submitted to VDOT by Feb. 9.

Comments should be mailed to Mr. Jim Jones, Project Manager, 870 Bonham Road, Bristol, VA 24201. You can also email comments to bristolinfo@vdot.virginia.gov, referencing “Route 58/23 Access Improvements” in the email subject line.

When and where

The hearing will be held Jan. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Scott County Career and Technical Center, located at 387 Broadwater Ave. in Gate City.

To allow for more flexibility, there will be no formal presentation. Instead, citizens will be able to review plans with VDOT representatives at their convenience anytime between 5 and 7 p.m.

For more information, or if you require special assistance to participate in the meeting, call VDOT’s Bristol District office at (276) 669-6151.
