Let's play some dodgeball

KINGSPORT — Does a game of dodgeball sound like fun? How about a game of dodgeball in the dark with glow in the dark balls?

Sounds even better.

Kingsport’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its first-ever glow in the dark dodgeball tournament on Feb. 9 at the V.O. Dobbins Community Center (301 Louis St.). The games will be played from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the cost to play is $2 per person.

There will be two age divisions: 13-16 and 17 and above. Teams of six with two substitutes will be allowed. Program administrator Renee Ensor said she hopes to get 15 to 20 teams involved in the two-hour tournament.

The dodge balls will not be your typical, hard rubber balls, she said. Rather they’ll be foam and, of course, they’ll glow in the dark. In addition, glow in the dark tape will be used to outline the courts, there will be glow sticks and a DJ will be on hand for entertainment.

Everyone must wear a white T-shirt in order to participate, Ensor said. Standard dodgeball rules will be in effect, and the tournament will feature double elimination-style brackets.

Prizes will be awarded for each division’s winners.
