KINGSPORT — If you care about downtown Kingsport and want to offer suggestions about its future, you’ll have a chance to do so tonight.

City planners are hosting an event at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education at 6 p.m. where they will unveil a draft copy of the Downtown Kingsport Master Plan. The plan is the city’s guiding document to create a vision to reinforce and magnify the role of downtown as the economic and cultural heart of the community.

The plan will facilitate the direction, type, and location of new development and associated downtown improvements for the next 10 years.

The draft plan shows current projects taking place in the area, including the Town Park Lofts on Sullivan Street, the product creation center on Shelby Street and Regions Bank possibly becoming the new city hall.

Other proposed ideas shown on the draft plan include townhouses in the warehouse district, four new parks across downtown and a hotel at the corner of Broad and Center.

The Downtown Kingsport Master Plan is in the draft phase and the city would like your input. Come by and share your thoughts and ideas at tonight’s presentation. The draft recommendations and draft plan presentation are based on feedback from three previous public meetings, countless interviews and an analysis of existing conditions.
