KINGSPORT – Community members of all ages will be showing off their style this Saturday at a community unity fashion show.

The event will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the Kingsport Civic Auditorium, located at 1550 Fort Henry Drive, and it’s not too late to get tickets.

Event details

Johnnie Mae Swagerty, director of New Vision Youth and South Central Kingsport, said this is the first year this show will be held. She added that the show isn’t a competition, so participants will not be judged or given awards.

“It’s just them coming out and showing their style of clothes that they like to wear and that best fits them and their image,” Swagerty said.

Those who would like to eat before the show can arrive at 5 p.m. for a hot dog dinner, which will include homemade chili, baked beans, chips, drinks and cookies from The Cookie Company. The meal will cost $5 per person.

Music during the show will be provided by DJ Express, and Shabby Allie’s will decorate the venue in a Valentine’s Day theme. Other sponsors include South Central Kingsport, New Vision Youth and Kingsport Parks & Recreation.

Who can participate?

Mary Hamilton, director of the Miss Kingsport and Miss Sullivan County pageants, said spectators will see a number of familiar faces modeling at the fashion show, including Miss Kingsport, Miss Sullivan County, Malik Foreman, city leaders, area pastors, PEAK members and Downtown Kingsport Association members.

New Vision Youth members, South Central Kingsport members and others from throughout the community will also be participating. Participants will be divided into two age groups: 3-11 and 16-seniors.

Those who are interested in modeling must attend a practice session this Friday, Feb. 9, from 5-7 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium. There is no cost to participate, but all models must provide their own clothing.

How to get tickets

Those who want to watch the show can purchase tickets at the door on the night of the event, call Swagerty at (423) 429-7553 or visit Taylor-Hamilton Insurance in Kingsport. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 11.
