Since it began 15 years ago, the prom has given young children and teenagers the opportunity to dress up, dance and socialize with others, all at no cost.
When and where: The event will be held Saturday in the Douglass Room at the V.O. Dobbins Complex in Kingsport. Preschoolers through 11-year-olds can dance from 4-6:30 p.m., and 12- through 17-year-olds will follow from 7-10 p.m.
What to expect: Johnnie Mae Swagerty, executive director of New Vision Youth, said the chaperoned event will feature refreshments, a dance contest and a crowning ceremony for the prom prince and princess. It is free and open to all youth, and participants are encouraged to come in their Sunday best.
Sponsors: Supporters of the event include New Vision Youth, South Central Kingsport Community Development, Kingsport Parks and Recreation and Girls Inc. Music will be provided by DJ Jimmy Smiles.
