HILTONS — Community members are invited to celebrate Christmas a little early this weekend at the Carter Fold.

The popular program will return for another year on Saturday and will feature Christmas decorations and a live performance by the Scott County JAM Band.

When and where

The event will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Carter Family Fold, located at 3449 A.P. Carter Highway.

What to bring

In lieu of an admission charge, patrons are asked to bring a donation of canned goods valued at $10 per person for the local food bank. Those not bringing canned goods are asked to make a $10 donation, with all proceeds going to the food bank. Children under 12 years old will be admitted free of charge.

Guests are also asked to bring finger foods, two-liter drinks and cups, plates or napkins. Christmas music will be performed as refreshments are served.

What to expect

The A.P. Carter birthplace cabin will be specially decorated in the mountain Christmas tradition, featuring homemade Christmas decorations by the special needs youth of Sullivan County.

Several members of the Scott County JAM Band and their instructors will stage a special Christmas performance. JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) is a program that encourages the preservation of old-time Appalachian music.

The after-school program is in its fifth year in Scott County and is open to any student in fourth through 12th grade. The band has played at many venues, including Heartwood Youth Music Festival, Mountain Empire Home Craft Days, WGOC Radio, Clinch Mountain Music Fest and the Carter Fold.
