Volunteer opportunities coming up at Natural Tunnel

Staff Report • Apr 2, 2019 at 12:37 PM

DUFFIELD — With April being National Volunteer Month, Natural Tunnel State Park is giving the community a chance to lend a hand.

The park will host two cleanup events in the coming weeks, and registration is open now.

Cachers Improve the Outdoors

On April 13 at 2 p.m., community members are invited to participate in a “Cache In, Trash Out” event. Several geocaches are hidden throughout the park; why not use these hidden treasures to do some good?

Participants will take technology into the outdoors to go on a geocache adventure, while picking up litter found along the way. For more information and to register for this event, contact Rachel Blevins at (276) 940-1643 or rachel.blevins@dcr.virginia.gov. Registration is required by April 12 at 4 p.m.

Invasive Species Removal

Join Natural Resource Specialist Jordon Blevins in a volunteer effort to remove some unwanted plants from areas throughout the park. The event will be held on April 20 from 9-11 a.m., and participants should meet at the Visitors Center. Register your group or family by calling the park office at (276) 940-2674.
