Seed giveaway to be held in Scott County

Staff Report • Aug 26, 2019 at 9:30 PM

GATE CITY — Farmers and landowners are invited to a seed giveaway later this week in Scott County.

Who: The Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District — located at 369 Gateway Plaza, Suite 101, in Gate City — will be giving away food plot seed blends free to the public.

When: The giveaway will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday. Seed blends must be picked up in person.

What: Two different types of seed blends will be given to each person. One will be a small seed blend containing crimson clover, alfalfa, daikon radishes, chicory, rape and turnips. The large seed blend will contain rye, wheat and winter peas. The blends combined will cover approximately one-fourth of an acre.

Why: The giveaway provides an opportunity for the district to meet new landowners and let newcomers know what the district provides. The food plot blend also helps farmers and landowners protect other crops from wildlife pressure.
