Later this month, the church will host the acclaimed a cappella group Chanticleer, and tickets are available now. Mark Davis, director of music ministries for the church, said he expects the group will attract a sellout crowd from across the region.
“Anyone who is aware of them knows that this is a rare opportunity to hear a Grammy award-winning, world famous group in person,” Davis said, “not to mention the fact that the acoustics of our church are absolutely ideal for this a cappella group.”
Founded in San Francisco in 1978, Chanticleer is known around the world as an “orchestra of voices” due to its seamless blend of 12 male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, and its original interpretations of vocal literature.
Over the last 37 years, 102 men have sung with Chanticleer. The group’s current 12 singers are from nine states and perform about 100 concerts a year, all over the globe.
“They’ll fill the hall with their sounds,” Davis said, “and their harmonies are unique in the world of a cappella singing.”
How to attend
The concert will be held Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the church, located at 100 W. Church Circle. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $10 for students.
For the first time in the church’s performing arts series, tickets can be purchased online at firstpreskingsport.org. They can also be purchased at the church Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Davis said.
“We really are, more than ever, expecting a sellout,” Davis added. “We have the potential for about 480 people is all here, and I think it’s going to go very fast, so we really want to encourage people to get in touch and purchase their tickets as soon as possible.”
