The statement is the cornerstone of ESGR’s effort to gain and maintain employer support for the Guard and Reserve. The program encourages employers to act as advocates for employee participation in the military.
“We want our employees who serve in the guard and reserve to know the college will do everything possible to support them both in the military and here at the college,” Northeast President Bethany Flora said. “We are proud to note their service to the military and Northeast State.”
The support statement confirms that Northeast State joins other employers in pledging that:
— “We fully recognize, honor, and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
— “We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
— “We appreciate the values, leadership, and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans.
— “We will continually recognize and support our country’s Service members and their families, in peace, in crises, and in war.”
The signing ceremony was held in the Wayne G. Basler Library on the Blountville campus. Flora was joined by Jerry Bush, Northeast Tennessee Area vice chair for ESGR.
ESGR is a Department of Defense office established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for guard and reserve service. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws and resolves conflict between service members and employers.
