KINGSPORT -- A Thursday morning vehicle fire sent smoke over the downtown area and closed a portion of West Market Street.

The blaze occurred at about 10:15 a.m. in front of P&J Antiques, near the corner of Broad Street. Nalona Kosma told firefighters that smoke began coming from underneath the seats of her Cadillac DeVille, and she exited to try and disconnect the battery.

Fire quickly spread throughout the car and gutted the vehicle, along with causing significant damage to an adjacent Lexus SUV. Black smoke billowed over the block and police shut down the street, with the Kingsport Fire Department on the scene quickly to extinguish the blaze.

Kosma told the Times News that she has had the car only a week, but did have full coverage.

"I always have my dogs with me. Today's the first day I didn't," said Kosma, who had an appointment around the corner. "I'm so glad."

No injuries were reported in the incident.
