Community Scrapbook: Playing for a Cause

Earlier this month, the Blountville Lady Tigers hosted the Holston Lady Eagles in their annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Volleyball Game — a match that’s so much more than a game to both teams.

“It’s very important for us to raise awareness and teach our kids that anything can happen and not to take life for granted, and the feeling of giving back,” said Blountville head coach Natalie Brown. “The sad thing is our list gets longer and longer every year.”

This year, the teams played in memory of former BMS student Bradley Brock and in honor of former BMS students Jess McMurray and Nick Shortridge. They also honored Holston Middle School setter Faith Wilson (right), who has been a part of these games for the past six years, and Indian Springs Elementary School student Jacob Richie.

Each year, at the match, the team collects gifts to distribute to children undergoing treatment at Niswonger Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
