Schools across the region celebrated Read Across America Week with a collection of fun and fantastical activities. Held annually to promote reading and celebrate beloved children author Dr. Seuss' birthday, the festivities range from green eggs and ham for breakfast to dress-up days featuring silly hats, silly socks and favorite book characters.
Mount Carmel Elementary School kicked off its week with Silly Socks and Hats Day. Miss Kingsport Taylor Hubbard read to some of the classes. The school followed with Wacky Wednesday and various dress-up days. Indian Springs Elementary kicked off its week with Silly Sock and Crazy Hat Day, and followed with special guest readers and other dress-up days. At St. Clair Elementary School, faculty members dressed up as their favorite book characters to kick off the weeklong celebration.
