In other high school action Tuesday, Science Hill’s soccer team kept its season alive, and the volleyball teams of Union, Ridgeview, Thomas Walker, Eastside and Twin Springs tacked on W’s.
Other winners Friday night included Daniel Boone, Rye Cove, J.I. Burton, Eastside, Castlewood, Gate City, Ridgeview and Honaker.
Thomas Walker and Twin Springs also picked up Cumberland District volleyball victories Tuesday, and Gate City and John Battle rolled to Mountain 7 wins.
David Crockett solidified its place in the Region 1-5A title race Friday with a 56-20 win at Cherokee; Eastside’s Evan Bellamy has school record night on defense; and other games from around the region.
In other Southwest Virginia volleyball action Tuesday, Abingdon outlasted Union, Ridgeview got by Grundy and Patrick Henry subdued Holston.
In the District 1-AA volleyball tournament, Sullivan Central, Sullivan East and Elizabethton all advanced with sweeps.
Elsewhere on the gridiron Friday night, Greeneville and Tennessee High rolled, Cherokee and Farragut pulled out tight victories, and Abingdon found its groove in the second half to beat Wise Central.
The volleyball teams from Abingdon, Twin Springs and Rye Cove also were among Tuesday’s winners — as was Volunteer’s soccer team, which secured a home match for the upcoming tournament.
In area volleyball action Monday, Wise Central, Gate City, Sullivan North, Volunteer and Morristown East all added to the win column.
The Dobyns-Bennett girls team won the Low Country Invitational convincingly on Saturday with a team score of 46 points.
Twin Springs, Castlewood, Ridgeview, Honaker, Happy Valley and Hampton also were among the winners on the gridiron Friday night.
In other volleyball action Thursday night, Daniel Boone, Tennessee High, Twin Springs, Honaker and Abingdon emerged with wins.
