If you’re a Sullivan County property owner and you haven’t paid your 2016 county property taxes, the deadline to avoid late fees is Tuesday. Full payment must be received by the county trustee’s office by close of business Feb. 28 (not just postmarked by then).
The first delinquent notice (about 400) went in the mail on Jan. 20 and the second one (a little less with 350) about a week ago. Next week, a notice will be filed in the Times-News informing the delinquent taxpayers the matter would be going to court in 30 days, or around the first of April.
BLOUNTVILLE — If you own property in Sullivan County, you should soon receive a tax notice in the mail, county Trustee Frances Harrell said Wednesday. The notices were mailed this past weekend.
Kingsport mailed out more than 29,500 tax notices this year with a total billed value of $35.8 million. In all, the city collects about 97 percent of the tax levy in the year bills are issued. These amounts do not include state assessed public utilities which are normally billed in January.
Johnson City has not yet approved a city property tax rate for the current fiscal year. Even if you don’t own property there, it could be making your tax bill later than usual in getting to you.
