CHURCH HILL — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a body was found floating in the Holston River near Christians Bend boat ramp in Hawkins County, the TWRA announced shortly before noon Saturday.

Investigators said the body appears to have been in the water for quite some time.

A local rescue squad was on the scene, and the TWRA and Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating, as it is not yet known if the death is boating-related. Contrary to early reports, the male victim was not wearing a life jacket, a TWRA statement said.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the statement from the TWRA office in Morristown.
