KINGSPORT — Police are investigating an apparent Sunday evening shooting at a busy city intersection, though a potential victim and suspect have yet to be located.

According to records at the Kingsport Police Department, the shooting occurred at about 6:45 p.m. at the corner of North Eastman Road and East Center Street. Multiple people reported hearing gunfire, while one witness in Indian Highland Park reported seeing a white male running away and clutching his stomach.

A motorist on Center Street added that she saw a man with a gun exit a lifted pickup, then fire two shots at a man who was near the fence at the park. After that, according to the witness, the gunman fired two shots at a car.

A third witness said that after the car was shot, its driver reversed to the adjacent USA Mart. Before fleeing the scene, it is believed the driver of the car may have picked up the shooting victim.

Police recovered two shell casings from the roadway but currently have no information on the men involved. One witness described the shooter as a "very muscular" white man. Another thought the pickup was a black Chevrolet Silverado and the car involved to be a blue BMW convertible.

According to Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton, an investigation into the incident was continuing on Monday.
