BLOUNTVILLE — Katherine Keene Doyle, 53, Johnson City, was killed in a two-car head-on crash Monday afternoon on State Route 126, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Sullivan County officials have confirmed to the Times News that the other vehicle is county-owned and was being driven by Sullivan County Building Commissioner Tim Earles, presumed to have been on the clock at the time of the crash.
An early report from the THP includes the following:
• The crash occurred at the intersection of SR 126 and Gravel Top Road, west of Blountville, at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
• Timothy Earles, 63, Kingsport, was driving a 2017 Jeep Cherokee SUV eastbound (toward Blountville). Doyle was westbound in a 1999 Nissan Sentra sedan. The preliminary report state’s Earles crossed the center line and struck Doyle’s vehicle head on (but notes the final crash report may not reflect that).
• Doyle died and Earles was injured. Both were wearing seatbelts.
• Criminal charges are pending against Earles, and THP will complete a follow-up report.
