CHPD Chief Chad Mosley said the suspect, Daniel Lee Powell, 29, was last seen riding as a passenger in a dark colored vehicle with Georgia license plates headed east toward Mount Carmel and Kingsport.
Powell is accused of stabbing John Begley, 29, who had been a guest at the Church Hill Inn for about two days.
An argument over money reportedly occurred Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. at Begley’s room, during which Powell allegedly stabbed him three times.
“They are acquaintances, and they had spent some time together, hung out together, leading up to this,” Mosley said. “I would consider him (Powell) dangerous, and if you look back on his rap sheet, he has a history of violence.”
Begley was transported by Hawkins County EMS to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening and reportedly walked out of the emergency room late Tuesday against medical advice.
Powell is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.
He also has pending warrants in Knox County for felony escape and failure to appear on charges of felony attempted burglary, evading arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Powell’s pending Kingsport charges weren’t available.
Anyone with information about Powell's whereabouts is asked to contact the CHPD at (423) 357-3487 or (423) 357-7121.
