UPDATE: TWRA identifies Cherokee Lake fatal boating accident victim

ROGERSVILLE — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating a drowning that occurred Saturday afternoon when a boat overturned on Cherokee Lake near the Quarryville boat ramp.

According to the TWRA, around 2:45 p.m., Edward McMillan, 71, of Gate City, Va., was fishing with a juvenile male onboard a 1993 14-foot Gheenoe near Quarryville boat ramp near Mooresburg in Hawkins County.

According to witness statements, the vessel was about 60 yards off the bank when it overturned, sending both occupants into the water.

The juvenile male was able to pull the victim to shore, although he did not survive.

According to the TWRA, neither occupant was wearing a personal flotation device.

Among the agencies that responded to the scene were the Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency, Hawkins County EMS, Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office, and Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department.
