GATE CITY – Students at Gate City High School are helping the Scott County Rotary Club’s Kaziwo irrigation project become a reality.
Students held three bake sales and hot chocolate sales in December to raise funds for the project, which will provide a reliable source of water to four villages in the Kaziwo community of Malawi, Africa.
Instructor Dawn Williams and many of the students attended the Rotary Club meeting on Feb. 4 to present a check to the club for the project. Their donation totaled $1,739.53, far above their initial goal of $100.
Making the presentation to Rotarians Roger and Earline Lane were Williams and students Tanner Bull, Morgan Tipton, Cassie Martin, Megan Langrel, Haylee Sexton, Bea Garcia, Madison Roberts, Zack Taylor and Aidan Bowen.
Others who supported the fundraising efforts were students Colbe Bellow, Zackary Salyer, Ethan Gibson, Ethan Billips, Bradley Carrier, Nathaniel Bowman, Hunter Calhoun, Easton Castle, Javen Cole, Dacey Falin, James Falin, Samuel Fischer, Sara Gillespie, Alisha Gorley, Kenneth Grizzle, Macy Lumpkins, Issac Lynch, Seoeun Park, Caleb Poole, Madison Sage, Jihye Seok, Abbigail Thompson, Ashlynne Watts, Chandra Winegar; teachers Tracy France and Sherri Gardner; and custodian Teresa France.
