Dr. Robert Strang, a long-time and well-known orthopedic surgeon in Kingsport, celebrated his 100th birthday on Thursday in a most unexpected way — with family members on the other side of the glass doors of his Baysmont home.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, such a measure is necessary to ensure the health and welfare of the employees and residents of Baysmont. Regardless, nine members of his family, including several great-grandchildren, came to his home on Thursday to celebrate his 100th birthday.
On top of the festivities, Mayor Pat Shull declared May 28 as Dr. Robert T. Strang, Sr., Day in the city of Kingsport. Dr. Strang, a graduate of Harvard Medical School, moved to Kingsport in 1953 where he practiced orthopedic surgery for 40 years.
